Jesus the Commander-in-Chief and His War Policy
No follower of Christ would ever deny that we are in a spiritual war. One thing we can comfort ourselves in is that we will win this war; praise be to the Lord Jesus! To stop there is spiritual shallowness. My heart is troubled with the number of casualties that the war will inflict. In a war, there are usually more than one battle.
Many wars were won and lost because of one important battle. Yes we will win the war. Should winning or losing the war be our only concern?

Just 2 days ago, while snacking on a peanut butter / jelly sandwich, I heard a big CRUNCH sound. My initial thought was "I must have bitten into some bug that sneaked into my sandwich!"
My tendency to think such a thing probably has its origin in the days I spent in semi-poverty when I was living in a $200/month apartment in the ghetto part of downtown Portland, OR. I almost tasted what a cockroach tastes like

The other evening I had a craving for pizza but didn't want to pay the price for take-out and I didn't want the greasy five dollar special alternative. So I thought I'd just buy crust or frozen dough at the grocery store and make my own. I didn't see any frozen dough, but the crust was over five dollars and the pizza sauces were around four dollars! Much to my surprise the cost was going to be about the same as going out for gourmet pizza once I gathered all the rest of the ingredients. I put everything back and picked up the cheapest five pound bag of flour I could find, some active yeast packets, some tomato paste and sauce and some affordable vegetable toppings, along of course with some mozzarella cheese that was on special.

The Scriptures make it clear to us; the Day is approaching... FAST! How can we prepare for our Lord's return? Start doing as many charitable deeds as possible? Going to seminary school? Tithe more? Fortunately, James gives us a bottom-line answer:
You also be patient; establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draws near. (James 5:8)
The Scriptures shared in this message will cause you to establish your hearts as you soberly examine the fact that the coming of the Lord Jesus in His glory draws near. This message was originally preached at Lifetime Bible Fellowship in 2006.

DIY Dedicated Caching Proxy (with Dansguardian) Server at Home
September 2007
Overview
This how-to is for those of you who want to set up a proxy server that will filter out the filth of the Internet (Dansguardian) and enjoy a safe and godly computing environment at home. As added benefits, you will be able to connect to your home network remotely and may be able to use this same server as a web server if you so choose (as a result of following my entire how-to). Moreover, Squid proxy caching capability will probably increase the speed of your Internet surfing.

This how-to article will explain how to set up BackupPC on Debian / Ubuntu (should be applicable to other distros as well) for a mixed OS environment using rsync. Since the actual program that will be doing the back up is rsync, the use of bandwidth is conserved. Rsync only transfers the difference; only the new and modified files will be transferred to the backup server each time.
BackupPC comes with a web interface that each client can access separately, making it easy for each user of the service to manage the backups. Read the rest of this entry »

This is the first post in our newly set-up blog site. I switched to wordpress (PHP / mysql) set up because the entering new stuff is way easier! We will be posting anything from devotionals to Linux how-to's, local business reviews, what's happening in our lives, etc.
I suppose it will be sort of a typical personal blog site, but we hope to do good things worthy of the name that we get to bear (ie not to waste our time or your time). One thing is for sure; we are very grateful to the Lord Jesus for His name that we bear!
